Dual Audit/Tax Intern

JOB TITLE: Dual Audit/Tax Intern      

REPORTS TO:  Audit/Tax Partner‐In- Charge    

FLSA STATUS:  Non‐Exempt 

DEPARTMENT:  Tax and Audit

SUMMARY: Provides individuals currently pursuing either a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting (or related field) with assignments that further their knowledge of the audit and tax function within a public accounting firm by performing the following duties. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Audit:

·        Under close supervision, participates in assigned audit test work, which includes substantive procedures on specific account balances and control testing.

·        Gathers and reviews documentation necessary to complete the assigned tasks.   

·        Starts to develop an understanding of generally accepted accounting principles. 

·        Assists coworkers in the completion of tasks and assignments to meet client deadlines for audit fieldwork and report issuance.  

·        Begins identifying issues/concerns and communicates such items to supervisors.  

·        Develops an understanding of the service capabilities and offerings of the Firm.

·        Complies with Firm policies regarding audit quality and time entry.  

·        To accommodate needs of clients, 10‐15% time may be spent traveling.  

Tax:

·        Works on assigned tax returns in various industries under the direction of the team leader by providing timely, high quality service.

·        Organizes workpapers, maintains open items list and conducts self‐review of work before submission to reviewer.  

·        Assists coworkers in the completion of tasks and assignments to meet time constraints and client deadlines.    

·        Begins identifying issues/concerns and communicates such items to supervisors.  

·        Performs research on income tax issues.  

·        Develops an understanding of the service capabilities and offerings of the Firm.

·        Ensures compliance with internal and external requirements and policies, including time entry.  

·        If applicable, actively prepares for and takes the CPA exam at every available opportunity.

·        Displays a willingness to learn and works well in a team environment. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.  

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or Experience:

Working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Master’s in a related field from four‐year college or university with strong academic track record (minimum GPA of 3.0); accounting‐based internship and/or

recent accounting or audit experience preferred; participates in campus and civic activities, serving in leadership positions in those organizations.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have working knowledge of Microsoft Word and

Microsoft Excel, office equipment, computer hardware and peripheral devices.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk or use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally

required to stand; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.   The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
