Internship Program Budget & Policy

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM BUDGET & POLICY JOB DESCRIPTION

We are so excited to know that you are interested in the internship program with the Office of the Governor (OOG)! Our program is made up of the most passionate and driven students and recent graduates who are eager to make their mark on state government in Texas. Interns have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment and have numerous opportunities to learn more about state government and the legislative process.

 This program gives students as well as recent graduates the opportunity to gain new skill sets while also building connections, both personally and professionally.  *Applicants not located in the Austin area are responsible for obtaining housing and or transportation*

 DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs support work for division advisors.
  • Assists advisors by conducting research, completing various assigned projects, and contacting state agencies.
  • Drafts correspondence, reports, and memos
  • Analyzes previous and current legislation to aid in future policy proposals.

 EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Excellent written and oral skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Self-motivated, time management, organized, and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively with division advisors, state representatives, and other government officials.

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of Texas government, the legislative process, and current policy issues
  • Previous experience in government, public policy, and legislation 
  • Currently enrolled as a junior, senior, graduate or law student, with no more than one year past graduation from an accredited college, university, or graduate program  

REQUIREMENTS

College student, law student, or recent graduate.

Communication skills (phone etiquette, professional writing)

Strong Organizational Skills

Basic computer skills (knowledge of Microsoft Suite)

Attention to detail.

Familiarity with Governor Abbott and his office's priority

Available to start May 28, 2025, Summer 2025

 Intern supervisors will be providing feedback to interns on a consistent basis to ensure the intern has a successful internship.

The internship is a volunteer position and is NOT paid.

The intern will be working up to15- 20 hours a week in this division.
