Intern Job Description for Communications Division
INTERNSHIP PROGRAM: We are so excited to know that you are interested in the internship program with the Office of the Governor (OOG)! Our program is made up of the most passionate and driven students and recent graduates who are eager to make their mark on state government in Texas. Interns have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment and have numerous opportunities to learn more about state government and the legislative process.
This program gives students as well as recent graduates the opportunity to gain new skill sets while also building connections, both personally and professionally. COMMUNICATIONS INTERN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist office with social media, media advisories, and press releases; assist with answering phones; and clip news articles for Office of the Governor (OOG) news alerts.
- monitoring the news and clipping news articles
- communicating with members of the press on the phone
- drafting taping scripts
- research projects as needed.
EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIRED:
Communication skills, customer service and writing skills.
Available to start on May 28, 2025, for the summer 2025 semester.
Prefer to have one intern from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and another intern from 1-5 p.m.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Degree in Communications, English, Rhetoric, or related field; interest in Government and Politics and Experience in Communications.
Intern supervisors will be providing feedback to interns on a consistent basis to ensure the intern has a successful internship.
The internship is a volunteer position and is NOT paid.
15-20 hours per week but the division is flexible.
