STUDENT TECHNICIAN - Nondestructive Evaluation

Who We Are:

The Sensor Systems and Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) Technology team is composed of engineers, scientists, and technicians who develop sensor systems and inspection methodologies and perform and monitor inspections to assess the serviceability of a variety of structures from deep sea to deep space.

Objectives of this Role:

  • Participate in inspection-related tasks in support of large-scale fabrication and maintenance efforts.
  • Interface with inspectors, fabricators, and engineers working together to design, fabricate, and qualify major mechanical systems.
  • Gain experience and hours in various NDT methods and techniques.
  • Summer 2025 Student Position.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

  • Support SwRI certified inspectors/examiners in their inspection activities.
  • Receive mentoring and shadowing opportunities in all aspects of nondestructive inspection.
  • Conduct inspections under the direction of certified inspectors.
  • Shadowing opportunities in inspection tasks in various methods, including ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle testing, penetrant testing, eddy current testing, and radiographic testing.

Requirements:

  • Must be pursuing an Associates degree in Nondestructive Testing, Technology or related degree field.
  • 0 years: Ability to understand and follow standardized processes to examine material, components or structures and documents appropriately.
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Communication skills and ability to interface with different levels of staff.
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.

Special Requirements:

Must be a U.S. person (i.e., U.S. citizen, non-U.S. citizen national, lawful permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) due to ITAR work in section.
