Summer Internship at Texas Education Agency
The Office of Special Populations and Student Supports (OSPSS) at the Texas Education Agency (TEA) is offering seven 20-hour a week summer internship positions during the eleven weeks between 6/2/2025 and 8/18/2025, paid at $20/hour. The internship offers valuable experience in education program management and administration at a large scale, supporting the 5.5 million K-12 students across the state of Texas.
The summer interns will provide a broad range of administrative and research support to units within OSPSS.
- Program areas include: educational policy, special education, complaints investigations, monitoring, data analysis, highly mobile-and-at-risk, mental and behavioral health, and operational management.
- Each intern will focus on a program area listed previously with a program-specific direct supervisor.
- This internship includes leadership development support through a curriculum administered by the office’s Chief of Staff with a capstone project deliverable at the end of the internship presented in-person in Austin during the office’s Summer Interactive on Friday, 8/8/2025.
Eligibility:
- The intern must be currently enrolled in or recently have completed a program at a Texas institution of higher education with a completion date no earlier than December 2024 (includes degree- and certificate-granting programs).
- Preferred areas of study include: Education, Educational Psychology, Business Administration, Political Science, Data Analytics, Sociology, Social Work, Law. If you are enrolled in a program in an area of study not listed above and you are interested in this internship, please submit an application.
- The intern must have the use of a computer during work hours.
- The intern must be proficient in using technology required for remote team collaboration such as Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, etc.
- The intern will submit to fingerprinting and background check and sign a non-disclosure agreement as necessary for the assigned area of work.
Deliverables and milestones:
- Program Support (60%): Perform administrative and research support tasks as assigned by program-specific supervisor with clear documentation of the assignment, timeline, and progress.
- Capstone Project (30%): Identify an area of work in the program that would benefit from improvements in consultation with program-specific supervisor and Chief of Staff. Research the area with possible solutions. Assess possible solutions and make a recommendation with a report and presentation to the office during the Summer Interactive on Friday, 8/8/2025, in-person in Austin. While all other aspects of the internship may be completed via telework, interns are expected to attend the Summer Interactive in person in Austin.
- Leadership Development (10%): Participate in weekly leadership development meetings with other interns and the Chief of Staff. Incorporate insights from leadership development curriculum into program support and capstone project.
