Location: Department of Aviation, City of Dallas
Pay Rate: $21.00/hour
Schedule: Monday Friday, 8:00 AM 5:00 PM
Overview
This Internship at Dallas Love Field Airport offers college students an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in Aviation Emergency Management, Aviation Security, and Communications Operations. Interns will rotate across the Airport Communications Center (ACC), Aviation Emergency Management, and Aviation Security Divisions, supporting real-world public safety initiatives in a dynamic aviation environment.
Essential Functions
Assist with Aviation Emergency Management planning, training, and exercise development to enhance preparedness and response capabilities.
Support the Airport Communications Center (ACC) by shadowing dispatchers, monitoring aviation communication systems, and learning about airport-wide incident coordination.
Participate in aviation security initiatives, including security compliance inspections, credentialing processes, and access control procedures.
Conduct research, compile reports, and assist with data collection for public safety programs and operational improvements.
Observe and contribute to emergency response operations during drills, special events, and real-time incidents.
Support stakeholder engagement efforts, including assisting with public safety education and outreach programs.
Knowledge and Skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills for professional interactions with airport personnel, stakeholders, and emergency responders.
Basic understanding of emergency management, public safety, or aviation operations (coursework or prior experience preferred).
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and ability to learn industry-specific software.
Interest in public safety, crisis management, and aviation security with a willingness to learn from experienced professionals.
Work Experience & Education
Previous internship or volunteer experience in emergency management, security, law enforcement, aviation operations, or communications is beneficial but not required.
Experience in customer service or administrative support roles is a plus.
Must be a current college or university student pursuing a degree in Emergency Management, Homeland Security, Criminal Justice, Aviation Management, Public Administration, Communications, or a related field
